  • Using a Nuclear weapon in Independence day was NOT a stupid decision when judged in the context of the story. We knew they had a powerful energy shield that the weapons previously fielded against it failed to penetrate. Using a single Nuclear weapon over a target already abandoned/destroyed by the Alien forces is actually, a purely logical decision to make. Perhaps the only logical decision they had available at that point. It didn't work, leading up to the climactic final battle and all that jazz, but the decision to go through with the attack was the only right call to make at the time.

  • Wrong. The dumbest decision wasn't the guys who killed John Wick's dog (they didn't know he was). The dumb ones are the guys who did and went after him knowing it was John Wick.

  • Hancock should be number one. They know for a fact he is super strong and invincible, he warns them to leave him alone, and they still do not back away. Unbelievably dumb!

  • Bad guys always fail on killing the hero when they catch him/her. Good guy(s) always fail on picking up weapons/ammo after killing enemy instead continue on with what little they have and run out of ammo shortly after. After an enemy goes down, they have to come within spitting distance to kick/touch to see if they are dead instead of putting one more bullet in between the eyes from a safe distance. Entering a room slowly with the barrel/gun leading the way. One of the biggest mistakes both sides make is underestimating their opponent/enemy that they do not even know.

  • 1). Anakin deciding to take Dooku on his own in Episode II of Star Wars.

2). 9 (from the movie 9) activating the machine with the talisman.

Disagree with Die Hard as being honourable mention since I don’t think McClane’s daughter accurately knew the situation of her dad. Plus she was very young.

3). Star Lord, out of his frustration for losing Gamorra, trying to attack Thanos.

4). In Speed (1994) one passenger tried to get off the bus as Howard Payne allowed only the bus driver to be released for medical treatment.

5). Sky High (not technically action/adventure genre but has it anyway so oh well 😂) – Will Stronghold taking Gwen down to the layer even when his parents told him not to.

  • Most of these were pretty good picks. But I should point out the Russian Mafia did not know John Wick was the world's most deadliest one man army. Also: exposing Houston to collateral damage would be a small price to pay if it meant saving humanity from a hostile alien invasion. So firing a nuke at the space ship wasn't what I would describe as a "dumb decision".

  • How can they miss James Bond. Virtually all villains come up with some slow, horrible death, that is to happen after the villain leaves the scene…and then Bond escapes and ultimately destroys the villain. When you have a chance to kill James Bond, just kill him. Try a gun…

  • In Iron Man 3, how did multiple helicopters, fire multiple missiles at US territory and not immediately get taken out by the military?

    Alex H July 24, 2020 5:21 pm Reply
  • Nuking the alien ship in Independence Day wasn't a dumb decision. What other options did they have? Their military was being decimated and the civilian population was being wiped out. Attacking the ships with fighter jets proved useless. A nuke was their most powerful weapon and pretty much the only option left. Unless of course they figure out that the aliens forgot to download the latest version of McAfee Antivirus

  • John wick should have been #1. Because the murder of his puppy 🐕 and theft of his car lead to 2 more movies of destruction from John Wick

Spyder Webb July 24, 2020 5:21 pm Reply
  • Now that I think about it, why didn't they fly the nuke ABOVE the ship? Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful scene and both movies were great, with the first being a masterpiece, but wouldn't they have at least minimized the damage if they had done so?

  • Upper middle class white girls kidnapped in Paris!! Yeah! Because undermining a billion dollar tourist industry for a few $ would not result in a massive response by the French and Americans! That is number one in terms of stupid plots!

  • Talking about Independence Day: Planning to load a virus onto an alien spaceship's computer ranks highly among the silliest ideas in movie history. Even more silly though that this plan eventually works. 🙂

  • #5: Nope it’s NOT dumb to make ONE attempt to nuke the shielded alien spaceship. They didn’t know what the limits of that shield are and were running out of options anyway. Indeed, it’s a tactic that actually tends to work: When facing an armored enemy, try your biggest warhead and hope for the best.

  • I'm sorry, but that doesn't at all seem like a stupid decision in Independence Day.. and thats coming from someone who is against nuclear weapons existing… What else were they supposed to try to save the human race from annihilation.. sharp sticks? Nuclear weapons are the strongest thing we have, it makes perfect sense to try them in such a situation.

actually, in theory not that bad of an idea.
energy is energy, hit the shield with enough blasts and it will collapse.
problem here is that they don't know how many hits the shields can take.
as far as we know this one atomic bomb might've seriously depleted the ships resources, or not.
but they could've hit it again and again, not like it matters if the land is radiated 500 or a billion years when your species is on the brink of extinction
